Association of Asia Pacific Airlines is bidding farewell to the troubled Philippines

The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines intends to relocate its headquarters from Manila to Kuala Lumpur next spring, it was disclosed at last November's 43rd Assembly of Presidents here.

Members of the organization, as well as DG Richard Stirland, played down the move as a routine administrative matter and denied it was related to recent events in the Philippines, including the near-death of Philippine Airlines and the continuing row between the Philippine government and those of South Korea and Taiwan over air traffic rights. Nevertheless, the departure of the secretariat from Manila only can be seen as a tremendous blow to the prestige of the archipelago nation. …
