American Airlines, frustrated for several years in its effort to create a transatlantic alliance to challenge Star's ascendancy, moved forward on two fronts late last year. On Nov. 15, AA and British Airways asked DOT for authority to codeshare on fights between the US and the UK excluding services to London Heathrow. The two seek to put the BA code on AA flights between Chicago and Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester and on American and Regional affiliate connecting flights between BA's US gateways and 31 other US cities. They want permission to place the AA code on BA services between New York JFK and Manchester and on BA's connecting flights beyond AA's UK gateways to more than 40 points in the UK, continental Europe and Africa. …
