Embraer sells 20% stake to French aerospace firms.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

Embraer, the Brazilian regional jet and military hardware manufacturer, has agreed to sell 20% of itself for $200 million to a group of French aerospace manufacturers. Aerospatiale Matra, Dassault Aviation, Thomson-CSF and state-owned Snecma will buy 48.5 million shares of Embraer.

For months, Embraer said it was looking for a large international partner to strengthen its military business in Brazil and Latin America. But sources within the company indicate it also needs additional capital for its ERJ-170/190 programs.

Despite repeated requests, Embraer would not comment on the acquisition and what effect it will have on its commercial ventures. …
