Singapore Airlines cited signs of an upturn in East Asia economies in reporting strong first-half results at both the group and company levels. Group profit rose 23.2% to S$339.8 million ($202.3 million) while company profit jumped 26.9% to S$298.6 million (see table).

At the group level, revenues rose 14.3% to S$2.5 billion while operating expenses climbed 11.1%, resulting in a 43.7% rise in operating profit to S$312.2 million. Contributing to the solid performance was a pre-tax profit of S$65.4 million from the sale of SIA's investments in SAirGroup and Delta Air Lines.
