ERA member Debonair Airways, a low-cost carrier based at Luton Airport near London, has been grounded. A British court ordered administrators from Deloitte and Touche to take over the failing carrier, which reported losses of $21.4 million in 1998.

Debonair Chairman Franco Mancassola could not be reached for comment and reportedly was on his way to Hawaii, the site of another failed venture of his, Discovery Airways. That airline was shut down in the late 1980s because of the issue of foreign ownership and because local carriers Aloha and Hawaiian closed ranks. …
