Air New Zealand's majority shareholder, Brierley Investments, delayed its promised move to boost its holding in ANZ to 60% as talks continued over the future ownership structure of Ansett. Brierley, which presently holds 47% of ANZ, announced in June that it intended to acquire a further 13% by the end of Sept. However, the deadline for any share purchases now has been extended to Dec. 1. The group's decision to increase its stake appears to be part of a broader plan to persuade Singapore Airlines to buy into ANZ instead of ANZ's 50%-owned Ansett. …
