Delta dissolves SAir ties as AUS says `auf Wiedersehen'.

As expected, Delta Air Lines said it would end its Atlantic Excellence alliance with Swissair, Sabena and Austrian to enable it to "concentrate on building its global alliance with Air France and Aeromexico." According to Delta, the Atlantic Excellence carriers will honor existing travel agency and corporate sales agreements through Dec. 31, while codesharing among the four will end by Aug. 5, 2000.

Commenting on the Oct. 13 announcement, DL Exec. VP and CMO Fred Reid said that talks with the three airlines made it "apparent that benefits associated with such participation were not there for all affected parties [and] it was important that Delta, Air France and Aeromexico move ahead. …
