Swissair offered compensatory damages to relatives of the 229 people who died in the crash of Swissair 111 a year ago. The offer, which would avoid a lengthy trial if accepted, is subject to plaintiffs waiving any claims to punitive damages.

Other defendants in the case include Boeing as the successor company to McDonnell Douglas; Delta Air Lines, which sold tickets on the flight as part of its codeshare with Swissair; Inflight Technologies, which manufactured the IFE equipment suspected as a possible ignition source, and various SairGroup subsidiaries. …
