Fairchild requests political support from Germany, US.

The US and German governments should appeal officially to the World Trade Organization to uphold its initial decision against illegal subsidies by the Canadian and Brazilian governments. So stated Fairchild Aerospace Chairman and CEO Carl Albert in a recent speech to the Washington (D.C.) Aero Club.

"We're not looking for any financial support," Albert told ATW following the speech. "But we would like the German and the US governments to take a more-active role in encouraging the WTO to hold up its initial decision on illegal subsidies against Canada and Brazil."

Specifically, Albert wants the WTO to reaffirm its decision last March that Canada's research and development support programs that benefit aerospace companies like Montreal-based Bombardier, and Brazil's like program called ProEx, are illegal under international rules. …
