Regional airline traffic rises significantly.(Statistical Data Included)(Brief Article)

Traffic, capacity and enplanements at US Regional airlines increased significantly from January through March, according to figures compiled by Washington, D.C., consultancy AvStat on behalf of RAA.

RPMs for the period climbed 19% to 4.41 billion while enplanements rose from 15.6 million in the first quarter of 1998 to 17.1 million in the 1999 period, a 10% gain. The industry completed 1 million departures and overall average load factor was 54.6%. Average passenger trip increased 8.3% to 257 ml.

"What you have are bigger aircraft, including RJs, flying longer stage lengths. It's great news for the industry," said RAA President Walt Coleman of the impressive quarterly traffic figures. …
