Another round of industry consolidation erupted before and during the Paris air show. "The way we see it is as a second phase of consolidation," says Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group President Allan Mulally. "There's a tremendous consolidation at the prime level, at the integrator level. I think what we're seeing now is the next phase--where the level below the prime airplane design and assembly level will see consolidation."

Mike Smith, Honeywell's president of aviation systems, says of the AlliedSignal purchase of his company, "We look at it very positively. There's a lot of potential." The overlaps are minor, involving TCAS, displays and communications management systems, Honeywell officials say. …
