The Australian government in a major policy shift announced that restrictions on capacity, codesharing and own-stopover traffic would be lifted for foreign carriers at all airports other than Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Dedicated cargo operators will be allowed unlimited access to every international gateway under the new arrangements, which follow an inquiry into international air services by the Productivity Commission.
