Air France's FY1998-99 net earnings fell 11% to Ff1.6 billion ($239 million) after a pilot strike in the summer of 1997 wiped Ff1.3 billion off its bottom line. Without the strike, profits would have been Ffr2.9 billion, officials said.

Reporting its first earnings since the government sold a 23.4% share to investors in Feb., M said it expects a new runway at its Charles de Gaulle hub, reversal of declines in cargo and expected entrance into a global alliance to boost operating income "significantly" this year.

The company reported Ffr300 million profit in the second half. It didn't provide comparable figures for the previous year, which included sale of travel operator Jet Tours Holding and a rail catering unit. …
