AGM delegates will ponder Y2K, safety and environmental issues

Safety, the environment, infrastructure and will the millennium bug be out of all aviation systems in time? These will be the major topics exercising the minds of International Air Transport Association airline chairmen and chief executives as they gather in Rio de janeiro May 30-June 1 for the association's 55th annual general meeting.

In his annual state of the industry report to the 260 members, slightly up in numbers from last year, Director General Pierre Jeanniot will stress the importance of airlines maintaining their pressure on the program, which he launched three years ago, to reduce the aircraft hull loss rate by 50% by 2005. …
