Thai Airways is planning on either a partial float in Dec. or a private placement to a strategic partner, possibly the Star Alliance, early next year in the first stage of the Thai governments privatization program.

Thai President Thamnoon Wanglee said at a Star function in Sydney that he would prefer Star as a shareholder to oneworld carriers and rival bidders British Airways and Qantas to avoid any "conflict of interest."

Wanglee said that a team led by Credit Suisse First Boston was working with Thai on a business plan and options for the sale of up to 23% of the airline, which would reduce the government's holding to 70%. …
