FAA soon will propose requirements for installing additional FDR parameters to capture inputs from the 737 rudder system, primarily as a result of NTSB findings in the crash of US Airways 427 in 1994, which was attributed by the Safety Board to an uncommanded rudder movement. Under the proposal, new 737s must have upgraded rudder parameters installed by Aug. 4, 2000; the compliance date for older equipment would be August 2001. …
