Long-time operating lessor CIT Group placed its first order for new aircraft last April: 25 A320-family aircraft and five A330s with deliveries beginning in the fourth quarter of 2000. Engine choices were not announced.

With more than 200 commercial aircraft on lease to 71 airlines worldwide, CIT Group is a major player among aircraft operating lessors, hut this is the first time the New Jersey-based company, 44% owned by Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, has ordered aircraft directly from a manufacturer. …
