Singapore brings a Star into its orbit.

Singapore Airlines has moved on its long-held plans to buy into Ansett Holdings and is expected shortly to announce its Intent to join the Star Alliance. In a deal that will cement its ties in the Australasian market, SIA is offering News Corp. A$500 million ($317 million) for its half-share in the Australian airline, which became a member of the Star Alliance at the end of March.

The conditional deal, which would see News Corp. exit Ansett after 20 years as a shareholder, is expected to be completed in July after clearance is secured from Australian authorities. Ansett Executive Chairman Rod Eddington, who is employed by News, has agreed to continue in his position for at least another two years. …
