ATW's silver anniversary awards dinner applauds the airline industry's truly great

The leaders of some of the finest airlines in the world graced the gala dinner marking the 25th anniversary of Air Transport World's Airline Achievement Awards, held in Washington, D.C., in February.

Leo F. Mullin, president and CEO of Delta Air Lines, the 1998 Airline of the Year, said, "This is a proud moment for me to be here accepting this extraordinarily prestigious award.

"We feel as if Delta is on a journey, with a substantial amount of improvement needed to be done" but with much progress already achieved. "The process of solving problems begins with problem recognition," he said. And the process is proceeding so well that "even I found my expectations exceeded by what our company has done in the past year." In a tribute to his predecessors and airline founder C.E. Woolman, Mullin added, "I truly have stood on the shoulders of giants. …
