ICAO limits NOx emissions.

ICAO adopted recommendations from the Committee on Environmental Protection (CARP) to reduce NOx emissions by an average of about 16% below current designs in next-generation jet engines. The stricter limit applies to new engine designs after 2003, according to ICAO. Engine emission standards were first established by ICAO in 1980. In 1993, the original limits for NOx were reduced by 20%.

ICAO released preliminary safety statistics for 1998 showing that last year 22 accidents occurred in scheduled operations that resulted in 909 passenger fatalities. …
