ACA continues record profits.

Atlantic Coast Airlines, the United Express affiliate operating in the eastern U.S., reported net income of $7.7 million on revenues of $78 million in the fourth quarter of 1998, a 152% increase over the $3.1 million net profit recorded during the year-earlier period.

On a year-over-year basis, cost per ASM for the 1998 fourth quarter decreased 17.5% to 16 cents while passenger revenue per ASM dropped 17.2% to 18.8 cents. The decrease in RASM resulted from a 25.9% decline in yield, partially offset by a 5.8-point load factor improvement.

According to ACA, the yield reduction is attributable principally to a 23.5% increase in average passenger trip length to 275 nm. …
