The Wing takes flight.

Cathay Pacific's lounge at the new Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok is somewhat startling in its nontraditional approach to providing luxury for its high-value passengers. To he sure, the level of service is on a par with or above what passengers are accustomed to receiving from the experienced Asian carrier. On the other hand, to call the environment merely nontraditional would minimize the departure from convention Cathay has made in creating "the Wing," as the first and business-class lounge complex is called.

Given a blank canvas and 4,000 sq. m of space with which to work, designer John Pawson selected a minimalist look, spare of line with sharp edges and hard textures. …
