Last Jan., Northwest Airlines made what in immediate hindsight was a wrong decision to attempt to maintain operations to the face of a blizzard that paralyzed huge portions of the Midwest. As a result, thousands of NWA passengers were trapped for 8-10 hr. on board dozens of jets snowed-in on taxiways at Detroit's Metropolitan Airport. A post-mortem report has not been made public, but the airline, the airport and city of Detroit all appear to be at fault in the fiasco.
