FAA certificates first Russian aircraft.

On Dec. 9, the U.S. Ambassador to Russia, James Collins, presented full FAA certification to Ilyushin's general designer, Genrikh Novozhilov, for the 11-103, a single-engine light utility aircraft. Tatiana Anodina, chairperson of the CIS Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK), the certification authority, described the occasion as "the culmination of seven years' work, which has resulted in the first-ever U.S. certification of a Russian aircraft."

Ambassador Collins stated that over the past seven years, FAA had worked closely with the MAK and Russia's Federal Aviation Service to improve levels of flight safety in both countries and to harmonize the certification systems and standards. …
