Kitty Hawk announced across-the-board job cuts of at least 50% for its American International Airways division, which was acquired in Nov., 1997. Kitty Hawk said the cuts are necessary to make AIA profitable.

As part of the restructuring, Kitty Hawk will retire AIA's DC-8-50s and dash 61s as heavy maintenance comes due. By the end of 1999, AIA will operate 19 aircraft, compared with 42 in 1998, and employ around 1,200, down from 2,700 in 1998. …
