They did it!

A very disappointing year for Boeing ended on a high note as the airplane maker disproved naysayers by delivering a record 563 aircraft in 1998, including 559 commercial aircraft (see table). Boeing even beat its own projection, which had called for it to deliver 550 jets in 1998, up from 388 delivered or "tendered for delivery" in 1997. Boeing said it had four jets in storage awaiting customer financing, down from 36 at the end of the third quarter.

Boeing received orders for 656 aircraft in 1998, an increase over the 568 "gross orders" received in 1997. …
