FAA took action aimed at preventing fires in center fuel tanks on A300s and 747s. On A300s, FAA required a 1-time inspection and repair of the center fuel pumps and canisters to eliminate a possible ignition source. The AD follows a similar urgent action taken by the French DGAC, after three reports of damaged center-tank fuel-pump canisters and pumps.

Separately, operators of 747s were ordered to change fuel-pump procedures immediately to prevent "dry operation" that could result in ignition of the center fuel or horizontal stabilizer tanks. …
