The Sabre Group will increase its already large share of the Asia/Pacific CRS market under an agreement to take a minority stake in a new joint venture with local CRS vendor Abacus International Holdings.

Under the agreement, Sabre will invest $139 million in cash and an additional $100 million in CRS technology, in exchange for 35% of newly formed Abacus International.

Additionally, Sabre will become the CRS provider for the venture.

Further, 7,300 Abacus travel agencies in 16 countries will switch to the new Abacus system, which is "a customized version of Sabre," according to the companies. …
