AMERICAN TEAMS WITH JAL...WHILE ANA GETS UNITED.

American Airlines and Japan Airlines, as anticipated, announced an "understanding regarding a major code-sharing program on routes between the U.S. and Japan." This follows closely the new U.S.-Japan air-services agreement and is subject to government approvals. Announced Feb. 25, the deal calls for code sharing on each other's flights to and beyond U.S. and Japanese gateways.

AA serves Tokyo from Dallas, Seattle and San Jose, and wilt inaugurate Chicago-Tokyo nonstop service May 1. …
