Airline Interiors, a Simula company, offers the new AI-l000 tourist-class seat and the AI-2000 first-class seat. Simula, a 25-year old company specializing in transportation safety, purchased Airline Interiors four years ago. They worked to develop new, safer seats to meet the 16-g regulation and developed the energy-absorbing leg system, designed to safeguard passengers and limit excessive floor loading.

The AI-1000 has drawn 50 customers in three years, including all the major lessors. TWA and Continental have ordered the AI-1000 and AI-2000 000 for their MD-80s. The first shipset of AL-1000s has just been sent to British Airways for use on its 777s. BA also has ordered the type for its 757s. …
