Air France and its main pilots' union have reached agreement on a 3-year labor pact that would cut operating costs by about $90 million annually and increase operating flexibility as the airline nears partial privatization in 1999.

The accord, which officials hoped to conclude by end of Oct., would allow pilots to acquire shares in the slate-controlled airline in return for wage cuts. …
