FAIRCHILD OPTS FOR CF34-8D.(Brief Article)

As expected, GE Aircraft Engines' CF34-8D will power Fairchild Dornier's new 728JET, the first of a family of regional jets the manufacturer has aired plans for building during the next century.

The CF34-8D, which is modeled after the proved CF34 base-line model now on the Canadair RJ, will have a new nacelle/installation design specifically tailored to the 728JET.

The power plant will have 87% commonality with its most recent sibling, the CF34-8C1, which is in its advanced stage of development.

"This win gives the -8 line of the CF34 family even broader application opportunities and considerable impetus as we move into the next century," said Chick Chadwell, GE vice president-commercial engines. …
