Southwest uses Fujitsu's PC's for cockpit computing

Southwest Airlines will equip its entire fleet of Boeing 737s with Fujitsu's Stylistic 1000 tablet PCs as part of an On-board Performance System (OPS) to be used to compute take off and landing performance data.

Currently, all performance is calculated by hand by the first officer prior to takeoff. Flight Dispatch provides a preliminary suggested Authorized Takeoff Gross Weight for conditions but this must be adjusted to reflect real-time meteorological, atmospheric and runway conditions.

The tablet PCs will include software developed by Computing Devices International to enable calculations to be done on the PCs, providing up-to-the-minute performance data. Some of the specific variables entered into OPS include runway length and condition, aircraft weight at takeoff, weather conditions, fuel weight and weight of passengers and cargo. …
