Delta Air Lines became the latest U.S. Major airline to 'ally' with an airframe manufacturer, via a sole-source agreement to purchase up to 644 Boeing jets over the next 20 years. On the heels of a similar order with American Airlines, this means that the Seattle-based manufacturer has secured two of the three largest airlines in the world to exclusive long-term agreements.

As with the AA order, Boeing gave Delta a flexible delivery schedule and guaranteed pricing.

The order includes 106 firm aircraft through 2006, valued at $6.7 billion, but includes 124 options and 414 'rolling options' for aircraft through 2018 (see table). …
