Avionics buyers now have a continental source as Sextant and Dassault combine resources and components to produce high-tech systems

PARIS--France's avionics manufacturers are engaged in a slow and ritualized mating dance that eventually may result in the formal creation of a new market force. But not quite yet.

The current configuration, however, has seen the top avionics firms--Sextant Avionique and Dassault Electronique--put together a jointly marketed group of civil products that broadens the manufacturers' reach and approaches critical mass while retaining existing company structures.

The final step in this initial process was the June signing of an agreement creating the new CNS Avionics GIE, led by Alexandre de Juniac of Sextant as president and Olivier Hue from Dassault as VP. …
