Privately owned airlines reacted strongly to a decision by the EUC that there is no need for Air France to repay Ffr2O billion ($3.2 billion) in aid from its government, despite the fact that the European Court ruled the payments illegal. Neil Kinnock, EU transport commissioner, said: "Canceling the aid is feasible neither in law nor in practice." He argued the aid complied with EU law because AF had restructured, introduced cost-cutting and redundancies, and closed unprofitable routes. …
