The number of passengers carried by U.S Regional airlines will double to nearly 123 million annually within 10 years, according to a study conducted for RAA by AvSat Assoc. and the Standford Transportation Group.

Strong fundamentals, such as sustained increases in ASMs, average passenger trip length increases of 2% annually and overall load factor are expected to fuel Regional industry growth over the next decade, said the forecast.

The analysis states that the number of passenger enplanements will grow by 6% annually during the forecast period. Traditional turboprop routes are expected to show a modicum of growth, while the new long-range routes served by regional jets will propel most of the growth over the next decade. …
