Net profits for the fiscal year ended March 31, 1998, climbed to $19.8 mil0 lion from $12 million in the previous year, as revenues surged 49.3% to $277.2 million. Operating income grew to $30.4 million from $19.6 million.

Passenger boardings swelled by 53.2% to 2,899,800, RPKs surged 61% to 1.77 billion and load factor improved by 2.7 points to 54.4%.

Miami Air: Traffic was down at the Florida charter carrier in 1997. It told DOT that passenger boardings declined 2.7% to 363,1100 and RPKs dropped 10.9% to 573 million.

It remained profitable, however, recording an operating profit of $1.1 million, down from $2.3 million, and a net of $517,000, down from $2.4 million, on a 7.6% growth in revenues to $72.3 million.

Mountain Air Express: After following parent Western Pacific into bankruptcy, MAX was rescued by Air Wisconsin and the two are taking over many of the United Express routes formerly operated by Mesa out of United's Denver hub. Air Wisconsin is adding 10 Dornier 328s to MAX's fleet of five.

MAX last year flew 159,948 passengers, according to RAA.

Nations Air: The Atlanta-based charter carriers traffic was down in 1997, according to its DOT filings. Passenger boardings fell 32.3% to 109,000 and RPKs dipped 2.6% to 171 million.

Mew England: The Rhode Island-based carrier's passenger enplanements climbed 17.5% last year to 25,833.

North American: Traffic continued to grow strongly at the New York-based carrier last year. It told DOT that passenger boardings were up 11.9% to 169,000 and RPKs jumped 23.1% to 431.7 million.

On the financial front, revenues rose 20.1% to $51.3 million, operating profit remained level at $1.2 million and net rose slightly to $1 million from $899,000.

Olson: Traffic turned down at the Masks carrier last year, with passenger boardings dropping 47.6% to 5,199.

Pace: The North Carolina-based charter carrier flew 4,000 passengers in its 737. 200 last year, the same number as in 1996. But RPKs declined 6.7% to 3.66 million, it reported to DOT. Revenues of $3.8 million generated an operating profit of $264,000, up from $145,000, and a net of $158,000, up from $87,000. …
