U.S. DOT, after a 2-year investigation, approved the code-sharing agreement between American Airlines and Grupo TACA. The approval includes certain restrictions including a ban on code sharing beyond Mexico City.

Under the agreement the AA code will appear on 149 weekly flights between nine U.S. cities and 10 Central American destinations operated by the TACA Group, while the TACA Group-TACA International of El Salvador, TACA de Honduras, Aviateca, LACSA, COPA, and NICA-will put its codes on 126 weekly flights from eight Central American destinations in seven countries to American's U.S. gateways and beyond.
