Mercury Scheduling Systems' latest software provides real-time scheduling solutions

Like its namesake, Mercury Scheduling Systems of Vancouver, B.C., is getting the message out quickly. The medium for its message is Magellan, its latest crew-scheduling and tracking software.

What makes Magellan different from other crew-tracking systems is its ability to solve day-of-operations crew-scheduling problems for any airline without the need for a custom-made system, says the manufacturer. Magellan gives crew controllers the ability to address and rectify problems before and during the course of a day of operation; the information related to a repair situation is saved until the user chooses to delete it.

"Magellan goes in on top of almost every piece of software out there, which is good, because it's tough to get an airline to change its planning tool for fear of disruption," says Mercury President and CEO Michael Forster, who joined the company in October, 1997, from American Airlines. …
