Air 2000 joins growing list of U.K. IT carriers London--Air 2000, a new British airline beginning service this spring, continues a growing trend in the U.K. for the major companies packaging combined flight/hotel vacations to operate their own aircraft instead of sub-contracting the flying to others.

Behind Air 2000 is the Owners Abroad Group, which ranks as the U.K.'s third-largest aircraft seat contractor with 1.2 million a year, and the sixth-largest tour operator. OAG brought in Errol P. Cossey as CEO to establish its airline, which has taken operating leases on two new Boeing 757s with options on an undisclosed further number, and which plans to carry around a quarter of a million passengers during its first season's flying this year.

Cossey and some of his fellow directors have a 24% share in the airline. He is a well-known figure in the U.K. airline industry having carried out a similar task in establishing, at the start of this decade, Air Europe, part of the International Leisure Group, and now a successful 757/737 operator. …
