Airlines retarding growth of maintenance spending in 1987

Maintenance and engineering spending among the world's airlines will increase at a lesser rate in 1987 than in 1986, rising 9.0% this year after a 14.0% jump last year, an Air Transport World survey indicates.

This, the first of two special reports on maintenance and engineering that ATW will publish this year, focuses on large airlines. The second report, in our July issue, will treat the commuter/regional segment of the industry.

A total of 37 carriers around the world provided estimates of their 1986 maintenance and engineering spending, along with forecasts for 1987, in response to the survey. Their anticipated 1986 M&E expenditures totaled $3. …
