New Eurocity Express to operate out of London STOLport London--Michael Bishop, chairman of the British Midland group which operates British Midland Airways, Manx Airlines and Loganair, startled the U.K. aviation industry--and the environmental lobby--with a proposal to operate British Aerospace 146 four-engined jet airliners from the new London City STOLport that is being built in the derelict docklands only six miles from the center of the capital.

He "floated" the 146 proposal in announcing here a new subsidiary airline to be called Eurocity Express, formed specifically to operate from the STOLport that is due to be opened in the fall of 1987. Eurocity Express is applying to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for routes to Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Rotterdam and Dusseldorf in Europe, and to three points within Britain--Jersey, Guernsey and Manchester, initially using de Havilland of Canada Dash 7 STOL equipment. …
