Swissair provides training pointers

A frank account of Swissair's experience in training personnel from airlines in developing countries was given to an AFRAA/IATA seminar here at the beginning of September. Hans Jenny, division manager-cooperative projects, made the following points:

Training as a "transfer of know-how' depends largely on quality of the trainees.

Training should be done at the partner (developing nation) airline's home base whenever possible--there it is cheaper, more realistic, and easily integrated into the ongoing operations.

Selection of trainees has to be left to the partner, but Swissair conducts an English-language test and sometimes also a basic knowledge test before accepting a trainee. …
