SAS' EuroLink is successful strategy to improve business travel

COD stands not for a kind of fish in aviation language here, but for Commuter Operations Department, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) management having recently discovered that small is beautiful when it comes to feeding its hubs from some of the less-busy towns and cities on its network. It has therefore established a COD self-reliant profit center, replacing McDonnell Douglas DC-9s with Fokker F27s, doubling frequencies, and generating healthy increases in passenger flows.

At this writing, SAS is flying eight F27s under the generic name EuroLink, and this fleet could go as high as 13 units before a new-generation replacement is acquired. …
