Delta Air Lines, traditionally the least-complained about major U.S. airline, regained its pre-eminent position in 1985 after being nosed out in the previous year by Piedmont, the second-place carrier in 1985. Leading all carriers tracked by Department of Transportation statistics was Aloha, with a complaint rate one-third that of its closest challenger, Southwest, and less than one-fifth that of Delta.
