FAPA: Job information specialists

Future Aviation Professionals of America, the aviation job clearing house that has accumulated probably the greatest pool of information on the U.S. aviation labor pool and hiring trends, started 10 years ago as a group of ex-U.S. Air Force pilots helping each other get then-scarce airline jobs.

The group, which included FAPA President and co-owner Louis Smith, found scant information on how to go about getting a job as an airline pilot or what jobs were available, and what information they did find often contradicted other information. They decided to coordinate their information search and compile the data.

That effort spawned a newsletter that now has grown into a business grossing $2 million annually and climbing. …
