Targets set in KLM improvement drive. (air lines)

Amsterdam--KLM's profit for the 1983-84 fiscal year was 150% up on 1982-83 at $33.3 million, and according to executives here, the Dutch national airline is on track for an improved profit during the current fiscal. The figures form an encouraging backdrop for a drive by KLM to improve passenger service and to make itself one of the three best airlines in the world. And who does KLM think are the best? The obvious question was answered by H. W. Van der Wal, a KLM sales development manager: "The best airlines in the world are Swissair and Lufthansa, and we are striving to be on a par with them."

KLM considers itself among the top ten airlines in the world at present. In addition to upgrading standards in the cabin, it is working on improving staff attitudes and on-time performance. …
