FAA issued a Safety Alert for Operators regarding carriage of lithium batteries as cargo on aircraft, warning that recent agency research shows that lithium metal (nonrechargeable) and lithium-ion (rechargeable) batteries "are highly flammable and capable of igniting during air transport."
