Ryanair said it is closing its base at Marseille and will move four 737-800s to airports in Spain, Italy and Lithuania in January following the conclusion of legal proceedings by French authorities over taxes and social insurance contributions of its MRS flight crew.

The LCC argued that the 200 pilots and cabin crew at its MRS base work on Irish-registered aircraft, which are defined as Irish territory and thus fully compliant with the European Directive on Transport Workers requiring all mobile transport workers to pay income tax and social insurance in the country where they work. …
